This position provides administrative and medical support to one or more outpatient clinics. Incumbent is responsible for accurate phlebotomy management and correct coordination of all administrative information regarding labeling and packaging of laboratory specimens. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement. GS-6 grade level: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-XX grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes: General phlebotomy/nursing support work, administrative scheduling and appointment coordination, monitors patient's conditions, managing patient flow to the clinical areas, and interviewing patients to meet their needs. ["Major Duties: Performs venipuncture with consideration of the anatomy and physiology of the structures involved in blood drawing, i.e. veins, nerves, skin. Takes caution in infection control principles and guidelines, a sepsis and management of contaminated specimens. Applies clinical science to understand the multiplicity of tests and specimen requirements, the mechanics of venipuncture and patient preparation. Provides orientation and training in performance of phlebotomy and test procedures with the information and experience required to understand underlying disease process. Gives special instructions with regard to specimen collection, preparation, handling and test analysis. Performs blood collection from patients and employees with little to no oversight. Sets up essential equipment for phlebotomy procedures and specimen testing with little to no oversight. Orders and maintains specialized supplies and equipment for phlebotomy and testing services. Along with Medical Supplies for Health Care Providers and office Supplies for Health Care Providers. Maintains record of procedure performed in phlebotomy area. Performs clerical duties of position such as work lists, tracking and processing, logging, and labeling specimen. Other duties as assigned.
