The Health Technician within the Emergency Department at the Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center in Indianapolis, Indiana provides assistance of a technical, specialized, or support nature to health and medical personnel in the diagnosis or treatment of patient illnesses or medical conditions. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 12/31/2023. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Not applicable to DHA You may qualify based on your experience: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. The work requires above average agility and dexterity. The work may require heavy lifting of equipment, supplies and/ or patients in conjunction with patient lifting resources as available. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Performs a range of diagnostic support duties such as taking, recording and reporting to supervisor deviations in vital signs, pulse oximetry, weight, taking specimens, labeling specimens for the laboratory. Performing Environment of Care tasks such as area cleaning, organizing and stocking, as well as troubleshooting, and intervening to rectify equipment malfunctions and/or reporting issues requiring intervention or higher level notification/intervention. Explains procedures and positions patients for a variety of difficult procedures. Determining technical factors, setting controls and operating equipment and instruments. Assisting medical staff with or performs diagnostic procedures used to diagnose medical conditions. Orders and maintains supplies for the unit, to include specialized supplies pertaining to instruments used in the unit. Provides clerical and administrative support to the unit. Performs direct patient support work to include collecting information from patients, providing personal patient care and educating patients on pre-testing and post procedure activities. Obtaining blood specimens venous; urinary catheterization; attaching patients to monitors for continuous cardiac, oxygenation, and respiratory monitoring; performing EDKs, orthostatic blood pressures,, applying cold/warm compresses, and wrapping extremities, etc. Performs difficult specialized tests and measurements that are preliminary to the physician's treatment of the patient.
