You must be proficient in basic written and spoken English in order to meet the requirements of this position.- AND - In addition to meeting the English Language Proficiency, to qualify at the GS-7 level, applicants must meet at least one of the following requirements: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists. Therefore, technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled. You MUST possess at least one year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of Intermediate Care Technician position, and that is typically in or related to the work of this position. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-6 grade level in the Federal Service. Qualifying specialized experience includes: recognizing life threatening situations and act to correct these emergent situations according to established national or local protocols; understanding the legal/ethical considerations of critical care (e.g., actual/implied consent, patient rights, advanced directives, etc); taking and recording diagnostic signs to perform patient evaluations and screenings; assisting in behavioral/psychiatric situations; and assisting licensed personnel with complex, specialized, and potentially-life threatening situations. - OR - SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: successfully completed one (1) year of graduate education or internship directly related to the position at the next lower grade level. This education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent one (1) year of full-time study. If that number cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours will be considered an academic year of graduate study. Part-time graduate education is creditable in accordance with its relationship to a year of full-time study at the school attended. ["The Intermediate Care Technician (ICT) is assigned to the Department of Veteran Affairs, Veterans Health Administration (VHA). This position serves as an advance technician for outpatient care settings such as; primary care, mental health, and specialty clinics. As an ICT Generalist the incumbent may serve in a medical center, community-based outpatient clinic (CBOC), mobile medical unit or may have virtual/remote assignments. The incumbent performs ongoing patient care duties in an outpatient clinical setting. ICTs perform tasks in accordance with local policies after documented completion of training and demonstration of appropriate skills and competency. These tasks are not all inclusive and require the demonstration of appropriate training and documented competence prior to their performance. May assist with or perform other related approved technical health care procedures under the direction and supervision of the licensed personnel as competency is demonstrated and documented. Included but are not limited to; Performing observation-based screening and collecting patient information in collaboration with licensed personnel. Clinical responsibilities include but are not limited to: Vital signs. Point-of-care (POC). Ex: Hand-held blood analyzer (I-STAT), glucometer. Equipment and surgical instrumentation set up. Ex: skin biopsies (excisional, shave, punch). Treatments and interventions. Ex: Cryotherapy, incision and drainage, ambulation, and Foley coude' catheter insertion. Wound care. Examples: bandaging, application of dressings and wound measurements. Specimen collection and Preparation. Ex: collecting and labeling venous blood samples and mucous specimens. Assisting with patient exams and screening. Ex: gynecology exams. Preparation of lab specimens and transfer to the lab for processing: Ex: Labeling, placing in the proper bin or tube system. Assisting with patient exams and screening, utilizing technology such as telehealth peripherals. Ex: primary care physical exams (heart, eye, ear, nose, throat (EENT); gait exams, and skin exams. Mental health care. Ex: Crisis intervention, performs behavioral/mental health screens, conducts interviews, and observes behavioral patients. Patient education within scope of care or while providing an intervention. Ex: postprocedural care, splint care and wound care. Follow-up care: Ex: Suture removal. Electronic Health Record (EHR): Thoroughly and appropriately documents actions, interventions and procedures in the medical record. Ex: Procedural notes, progress notes, screenings, photo-documentation and secure messaging. Medication administration will comply with national and local directives and policies. Administration methods may include intramuscular, oral, topical, eye drops, ear drops, intranasal, rectal suppositories, local anesthetics, nebulized medications, subcutaneous, and intradermal. Follows national and local pharmacy and facility guidelines for disposal of medications. Conducts or assists with the training of personnel if appropriately trained, certified and/or qualified, for example: facility formal preceptors and Telehealth Presenter (TCT) instructors.
