Starting pay is $19.61+/hour, depending on years of experience.
$3,000.00 sign-on bonus may be available for qualified candidates with a one-year work commitment in accordance with UVA policy.
Independently performs and participates in basics of decontamination, cleaning, assembling, packaging, scanning, sterilization, storage, and distribution of reusable surgical instrumentation, supplies, and equipment. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, ordering; receiving; conducting cycle counts; pulling cases for the operating room; stocking supplies, instruments, and pans; restocking clean cart supplies; expediting supplies to the OR; and stocking OMNICELL cabinets with room stock. Cleans storeroom, keeps stock in order, verifies expiration dates, and ensures correct items are stored in their correct locations.
Prepares and assembles surgical trays and equipment following established tray listings for issue, storage, or further processing (such as sterilization).
Monitors, reads, documents, and interprets all parameters for all types of sterilizers to ensure proper function (e.g., ETO, steam, STERIS, and STERRAD).
Cleans and decontaminates reusable equipment, instruments, and supplies manually and mechanically (hand washing, washer/sterilizer, ultrasonic cleaner, scope washer, cart washer).
Gathers, assembles, and distributes surgical supplies, instruments, and medical equipment upon request or through case cart requisitions.
Operates the departmental barcode system to maintain records for surgical trays and instruments received, processed, and distributed (SPM Tracking System).
Cleans area and keeps stock in order.
Serves as preceptor in primary work area/assignment.
Performs special projects.

Position Compensation Range: $17.31–$26.83 hourly
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education: High school graduate or equivalent.
Experience: 1-2 years of sterile processing experience required.
Licensure Required: Certification as a Certified Registered Central Sterile Technician (CRCST) through HSPA or a Central Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) through CBSPD.
Job requires sitting/standing for prolonged periods, frequently bending/stooping/traveling, and reaching (overhead, extensive, repetitive).
Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills. Attention to detail and ability to write legibly. Ability to lift/push/pull 25–50 lbs. Working in an environment with fumes, chemicals, vibrations, heat, noise, blood/body fluids, and infectious disease.
