Job Description: As a Surgical Scrub Technician, you will provide patient care under the direction of a physician, nurse practitioner, or other non-physician provider. Desired Skills: First assist in Advanced Laparoscopic, Robotic, and open general surgeries Trocar placement First assisting in Lap and Robotic bariatric surgical cases Proficiency with Skin and subcutaneous layer closure Intracuticular suturing Interrupted stitches Suturing drains Skin glue application Dressing application Knowledge of patient positioning & draping of common general surgical cases Communicate with OR staff/ office personnel to facilitate case turnover and surgeon efficiency Strong communication and interpersonal skills Basic knowledge of robotic, laparoscopic, open surgical instrumentation Job Duties: Completely assists physicians with operative procedures, anticipating physician needs both in preparing for procedures and during procedure. Gowns and gloves surgeons and assistants, maintains sterile environment and gathers necessary surgical supplies and equipment. Retains all specimens to be sent to pathology, confirming source/name of specimen with surgeon. Ensures effective patient communication. Returns patient calls in a timely manner. Documents patient care accurately and timely. Performs EMR tasks correctly and timely. Processes patient referrals timely and follows up to ensure the specialist report or test result is received. Follows all regulatory and patient safety clinical standards. Ensures sterility of all supplies and instruments during setup of surgical procedures. Transports all surgical equipment to appropriate cleaning areas. Assists with cleaning and reprocessing of instrument sets, as needed. Handles instruments in a manner which prolongs "life" of instrument. Works and communicates effectively with all providers. Promotes teamwork. Provides great customer service in person and on the telephone. Assists in keeping physician preference cards accurate/updated. Demonstrates professionalism by articulating and demonstration professional behavior, accepting responsibility and accountability for actions, adhering to policies and procedures, demonstrating leadership, and supporting Meritas initiatives. Minimum Requirements: Graduate of an accredited school of Surgical Technology, Licensed Practical Nurse, or Registered Nursing Program with a current license to practice in the state.
